Oligohydramnios


  • reduce volume of amniotic fluid

Causes

  • defective liquor secreting cells

  • from foetal renal agenesis / malformations

  • intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR)

  • rupture of membranes

    • at 18-24 weeks results in pulmonary hypoplasia

  • post-dates

Complications

  • early in pregnancy

    • amniotic bands may form

  • later

    • pulmonary hypoplasia

    • pressure deformities

      • wry neck

      • altered shape of skull

      • club foot

    • foetal skin dry and leathery

  • labour

    • umbilical compression → foetal distress

      • attempted to prevent by infusion of saline
