Menstrual problems justify a total hysterectomy
completed family
must understand risk of TAH
uterine size <12 weeks gestation
Pathology is benign
Sub-mucous fibroids < 5 cm diameter

Risks

Uterine perforation
Haemorrhage
Fluid overload
Anaphylaxis
Infertility
Haematometra

Results

30% amenorrhoea
60% much better at 5 years
5% will end up with TAH
