Presentation

  • low urine output
  • jaundice
  • ascites

Investigations

  • low urinary sodium
  • maintained ability to concentrate urine
  • almost normal renal histology

Mechanism

  • extreme peripheral vasodilataion (?NO production)
  • activation of renin-angiotensin system
  • renal hypoperfusion and reduce glomerular flow rate
  • eicosanoids may have effect
    • precipitated by NSAIDs
