Cranial Nerves

  • I – olfactory
  • II – acuity, fields, colour, afferent pupillary, fundoscopy
  • III, IV, VI – eye movements
  • V – touching face, corneal reflex (afferent + VII), jaw muscles / jerk
  • VII – facial muscles, taste (anterior 2/3 tongue)
  • VIII – hearing and balance, Unterberger test
  • IX, X – gag reflex, speech and swallowing, palate movements
  • XI – sternomastoid
  • XII – sticking tongue out

Limbs

  • Inspection – posture, abnormal movements, muscle bulk, fasciculation
  • Tone
  • Power
  • Co-ordination
  • Reflexes
  • Sensation – joint position, vibration, touch, pain, temp
