Cutaneous Tuberculosis

  • contagious pustular dermatitis

  • Pox virus

  • most frequently seen associated with sheep and giats (e.g. shepherds)

  • solitary papulovesicular lesion on hand or forearm, may ulcerate

  • may be confused with anthrax

Impetigo

  • highly infectious skin disease

  • occurs most commonly in children although as "scrum pox" is spread between rugby players

  • presents as weeping, exudative areas - "honey-coloured" crust

  • can cause blistering

  • 90% cases Staphylococcus aureus

  • rarely group A Streptococcus

  • Treatment

    • topical fusidic acid + povidone iodine or

    • Flucloxacillin (Staphylococcus) / Penicillin V (Streptococcus

    • ? nasal muciprocin
