Assess adequacy of ventilation

  • Expose chest
  • Look for breathing movement - distress?
  • Palpation
  • Percuss - fluid/air
  • Auscultate - for information about air movement
  • Respiratory rate
  • O2 stats - <94% is abnormal
  • Blood gases - indications - raised respiratory rate with lowered SaO2
