Acute Red Eye


  • Common complaints are corneal and subtarsal foreign bodies, corneal abrasions and episcleritis.
  • Less common are corneal abscess and acute anterior uveitis.
  • Rare but sight-threatening conditions include acute angle closure glaucoma and scleritis

Examination

  • check visual acuity
    • if reduced then cause is serious
    • especially if pain rather than discomfort
