aorta Where does it arise? Path
common iliac
external iliac
femoral artery under mid-inguinal point in femoral canal, lateral to femoral vein,
adductor canal,
profunda femoris femoral triangle between adductor magnus and adductor longus
lateral circumflex encircle femur
medial circumflex
popliteal arch between adductor and hamstring parts of adductor magnus back of knee
anterior tibial leaving popliteal fossa between tibia and fibula, on interosseous membrane
dorsalis pedis crosses ankle joint dorsum of foot,
between 1st and 2nd metatarsals to sole
posterior tibial leaving popliteal fossa with long flexor tendons around back of medial malleolus
peroneal deep to flexor hallucis longus

Venous return

  • Short saphenous vein drains lateral aspect foot
    • drains into popliteal vein
    • passes through lateral subcutaneous tissue
  • medial aspect foot drains into great saphenous vein
    • passes through saphenous opening to empty into femoral vein in groin
    • passes through medial subcutaneous tissue
  • popliteal vein fed by venae comitante from deep tissue
    • communicating vessels with great saphenous vein allow action of pumping effect of muscles contraction
    • passes with femoral artery through hiatus in adductor magnus and up to external iliac vein
