    • hip flexion by psoas innervated by lumbar spinal roots
    • pendulum effect (unless speed walking)
    • knee flexed by hamstrings (sciatic nerve)
    • knee then extended and locked by quadriceps (femoral nerve)
      • provides very stable platform for femur
    • heel strike
    • plantar flexion (tibial nerve)
    • hip abducted by gluteus minimus and maximus (superior gluteal nerve)
    • arms swung as counterbalance
