- Peak age of onset 10-30 years
- more common in females
- develops shortly after menarche
- more likely to be unilateral
- spreads proximally from ankle and dorsum of foot
- may develop numerous vesicles which leak clear lymph/chyle
- swelling worse in day and decreases at night
