Motor supply to

  • supraspinatus
  • infraspinatus

Common pathology

  • damaged by sudden tightening of seatbelt
    • may be accompanied by upper trunk and clavicular injuries
  • paralysis of both muscles destabilises rotator cuff
  • loss of supraspinatus causes loss of 0-15º of abduction
  • loss of infraspinatus leads to reduced lateral rotation 
    • some preserved via teres minor (axillary nerve)
