Apnoea

• in children

• temporary cessation of breathing

Cause

• central respiratory depression

• mechanical obstruction

• first day or two of respiratory infections

  • pertussis

  • RSV

Differential diagnosis 

(if associated with cyanosis, unconsciousness)

• seizure

• congenital heart disease

• airways obstruction

Management

• worried parents may be calmed by loan of apnoea alarm
