Respiratory Distress


  • tachypnoea (Resp. Rate >50 infants, >40 children)

  • intercostal / subcostal recession

  • use of accessory muscles

  • expiratory grunting (infants)

Respiratory Failure


  • severe respiratory distress

  • diminished respiratory effort, apnoea

  • CNS signs of hypoxia

    • agitation

    • fatigue

    • drowsiness

  • cyanosis

  • collapse
