Cardiotocography
- measurement of foetal heart rate and uterine activity using ultrasound
probes
- at term normal foetal heart rate is 110-150bpm and varies >5bpm
Accelerations
- foetal movement
- uterine activity
Decelerations
- should be none prior to labour
- early decelerations (at onset on contraction) have no prognostic
significance
- late decelerations (starting late during contraction and continuing after
contraction finished) indicate impairment of uteroplacental blood flow and
foetal hypoxia. Especially if <100bpm
