Anatomical Relations of the Ovary
- Attached to posterior surface of broad ligament
- lie with distal ends of fallopian tubes in recto-uterine pouch (of
Douglas)
- can often be palpated through posterior wall of vagina
- suspensory ligament (fold of peritoneum) descends from posterior abdominal
wall across pelvic brim to ovary
- suspensory ligament carries ovarian artery and vein (forming pampiniform
plexus)
- ligament of ovary runs medially toward uterotubal junction (posterior)
- round ligament of uterus continues ligament of ovary in front of
uterotubal junction, passes forward through pelvis, across pelvic brim to
deep inguinal ring, through inguinal canal to labium majus
