Examination

• left iliac fossa tenderness +/- guarding

Treatment

• fluids
  • normal saline / dextrose
  • 4l / 24 hours
• bloods
  • FBC
  • U&E
  • cross-match 2U
  • blood cultures
• nasogastric tube
• oxygen
• ABGs
• antibiotics
  • cephalosporin + Metronidazole
• DVT prophylaxis
  • TEDS
  • Heparin / Clexane
• Analgesia
• MSU
• X-rays
• Consent for stoma
• If confined to left iliac fossa and improves then conservative
• if generalised  or progressive then laparotomy indicated
  • Hartmann's procedure
