Renal Osteodystrophy
- hyperparathyroid bone disease
- osteomalacia

Epidemiology
- present in many patients with moderate renal impairment
- present in almost all patients with end-stage renal failure
Pathogenesis
- decreased renal production of 1a-hydroxylase
- → ↑ parathyroid hormone
- → increased osteoclastic activity, cyst formation, bone marrow
fibrosis
- may lead to tertiary hyperparathyroidism
- hypocalcaemia and vitamin D deficiency → osteomalacia
- adynamic bone disease
