Trans-Urethral Resection of the Prostate
- using a cytoscope the prostate is resected internally with a diathermy
- usually performed under general anaesthetic
Precautions
- use of glycine
- normal saline will prevent diathermy working
Complications

Retrograde ejaculation (almost inevitable)

(rarely) impotence

minor haematuria

secondary haemorrhage

delay in recover of sphincter function (rarely permanent)
