Dorsali Pedis Artery

  • smaller of terminal branches of popliteal atery
  • arises at level of lower border of popliteus
  • passes forward into anterior compartment of leg 
    • through opening in upper part of interosseous membrane
  • descends on anterior surface of interosseous membrane
    • accompanied by deep peroneal nerve
  • in upper part lies deep beneath muscle of anterior compartment of leg
  • in lower part lies superficial in front of lower end of tibia
  • passes behind superior extensor retinaculum
  • medially
    • tendon of extensor hallucis longus 
  • laterally
    • deep peroneal nerve
    • tendons of extensor digitorum longus
  • in front of ankle joint become dorsalis pedis artery
