- tibial nerve
- initially medially
- then crosses posterior
- then lies lateral
- in lower part of leg lies anterior to medial border of calcaneal tendon
- covered only by skin and fascia
- passes behind medial malleolus
- deep to flexor retinaculum
- terminates by dividing into medial and lateral plantar arteries
