Deep Palmar Arch
Arteria Radialis Indicis
Arteria Princeps Pollicis

  • smaller branch of brachial artery
  • begins in cubital fossa at level of neck of radius
  • passes downward and laterally
    • beneath brachioradialis
    • resting on deep muscles of forearm
  • in middle third radial nerve lies on lateral side
  • in distal forearm lies on anterior surface of radius
    • covered by skin and fascia only
    • laterally
      • tendon of brachioradialis
    • medially
      • tendon of flexor carpi radialis
  • leaves forearm by winding around lateral aspect of wrist
    • beneath tendons of
      • abductor pollicis longus
      • extensor pollicis brevis
  • lies on lateral ligament of joint
  • on dorsum of hand descends beneath tendon of extensor pollicis longus
  • reaches interval between two heads of first dorsal interosseous muscle
  • turns forward to enter palm between proximal ends of 1st and 2nd metacarpal bones
  • on entering palm turns medially between oblique and transverse heads of adductor policis
  • gives branches
  • continues as Deep Palmar Arch

Branches

  • muscular branches
  • recurrent branch
    • takes part in arterial anastomosis around elbow
  • superficial palmar branch
    • arises just above wrist
    • enters palm by passing superficially or through muscles of thenar eminence
    • frequently joins ulnar artery to form superficial palmar arch
  • branches on dorsum of hand
    • take part in anastomosis around wrist
  • dorsal digital branches
    • to thumb and index finger
