Somites
- formed from paraxial mesoderm
- segmental
- produce sclerotome which migrates medially to produce vertebrae and ribs
- remainder of somite is dermomyotome
- separates into dermatome (dermis of neck, back, ventral and lateral trunk)
- and myotome (epimere forms deep back muscles, hypomere forms muscles of
body wall, migrating somitic cells form limb musculature)
