• usually a single adenoma of a parathyroid gland giving unregulated secretion of PTH

• 1/1000

• usually post-menopausal woman

Clinical features

Symptoms of Hypercalcaemia

• renal calculi

• muscle weakness

• tiredness

• thirst and polyuria

• anorexia and constipation

• depression

• nausea

• abdominal pain

Laboratory

• increased calcium

• decreased phosphate

• increased parathyroid hormone (PTH)

• normal alkaline phosphatase

Treatment

• surgical removal
