congenital - X-linked mutation in haem synthesis pathway

lead poisoning
FBC
mild anaemia
? leucopenia / thrombocytopenia
MCV raised in acquired, low in inherited
Blood film
dimorphic
symptomatic
blood transfusion
iron chelation
may respond to pyridoxine (vitamin B6) if inherited
