Central Retinal Vein Occlusion
- Increasing incidence with age, commoner than arterial occlusion
- Causes: chronic simple glaucoma, arteriosclerosis, ↑BP,
polycythaemia
- Sudden visual loss
- Fundus like "stormy sunset"
- Complications: macular oedema, neovasvcular glaucoma secondary to iris
neovascularisation
- Possible improvement 6 months to 1 year - peripheral vision improves most
- 1/2 develop neovascular glaucoma
Treatment:
- Panretinal laser photocoagulation can prevent neovascular glaucoma
