Retinal Detachment
- May be simple: holes in the retina allow fluid to separate retina from
pigment epithelium
- Painless loss of vision.
- commoner in short-sighted people
History
- visual field loss
- Progresses upwards as retina detaches downwards,
- downwards if retina detaches upwards
- more likely to effect macula leading to permanent loss of visual
acuity
- flashing lights
- floaters
Treatment
- Needs urgent referral for retinal reattachment - e.g. laser surgery
