- supporting layer of connective tissue
- muscularis mucosae
- smooth muscle layer
- occasionally present
Serous membranes (aka serosa)
- line pleural, peritoneal and pericardial cavities
- lining epithelium (mesothelium) does not contain glands
- coated in watery secretion
- basal lamina
- lamina propria for support
