Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
- released from anterior pituitary
gland
- thyrotrophin = thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
- stimulates secretion of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) from
thyroid gland
- release stimulated by thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH)
- T3 and T4 inhibit release of TSH, so form negative feedback loop
Disorders
- hypersecretion
- hyposecretion
14.2.3.4 TSH = thyrotrophin (from thyrotroph cells)
