- fingers resting on greater trochanters
- hips flexed to 90º
- gentle abduction of hips
Findings
Normal
- smooth abduction to almost 90º
Developmental Dysplasia of Hip
- movement usually impeded
- if pressure applied to greater trochanter then soft 'clunk' as dislocation
reduces and hip abducts fully
- if irreducible then abduction may stop halfway with no jerk of entry
