  • arises from anterior divisions of L2-4

Motor Supply

  • Muscles of the adductor compartment
    • obturator externus
    • gracilis
    • adductor brevis
    • adductor longus
    • adductor magnus

Sensory Supply

  • medial aspect of thigh
  • hip and knee joints

Path

  1. emerges from medial aspect of psoas
    • at brim of pelvis
  2. creosses pelvic brim in front of sacroiliac joint and behind common iliac vessels
  3. lies lateral to ovary in pelvis
  4. runs forward in angle between internal and external iliac vessels
  5. through obturator canal in upper part of obturator foramen
  6. spilts into anterior and posterior divisions to enter adductor region of thigh

Common Pathology

  • ovary lies medial and rupture of  follicles can cause monthly irritation in women
    • pain in medial aspect of thigh
