• in cancers / leukaemias with high rate of cell division
• Chemotherapy causes rapid cell breakdown

Features

• Metabolic Acidosis
• Hypercalcaemia
• Hyperphosphataemia
• Hyperkalaemia
• Acute Renal Failure

Prevention

• ensure uric acid level is normal before beginning chemotherapy
• IV fluids before therapy

Treatment

• may need Haemodialysis
