Adjustment Disorder
- state of distress and emotional disturbance
- usually interfering with social functioning and performance
- arising in period of adaptation to a significant life change / stressful
life event
- stressor may be something like bereavement
- response dependent on individuals social network / wider system of social
supports
Symptoms
Onset within one month, doesn't usually last beyond 6 months
- depressed mood
- anxiety
- worry
- feeling of inability to cope
- may be prone to episodes of violence / dramatic behaviour
- may regress
- thumb-sucking
- bed-wetting
- babyish speech

- depressive type
- mixed anxiety and depressive type
- conduct type
- emotional type
- mixed conduct and emotional type
