Hydrops Fetalis

• severe anaemia leads to cardiac failure resulting in
  • oedema
  • ascites
  • pleural effusions
• result of
  • haemolytic disease of the foetus
  •  

Features

• shows halo round head due to oedema of scalp
• splaying of ribs & enlargement of abdomen due to enlarged liver and spleen
• abduction of limbs (Buddha attitude) due to enlarged abdomen
• loss of flexion due to enlarged liver and spleen, pleural effusion and ascites

Investigations

• USS will detect in utero

Treatment

• transfusion in utero
