Laboratory diagnosis
Treatment
- acyclovir
- within 24-36 hours of onset of shingles can reduce chance of
post-herpetic neuralgia
Prophylaxis
- live attenuated vaccine available
- varicella-zoster immunoglobulin (VZIg) may protect immunocompromised or
pregnant mothers who may have been exposed
