  • uncomplicated treated adequately with a 30-day course of antibiotics

History

  • Acute febrile prostatitis
    •  Fevers
    • chills
    • rigors
    • frequency
    • urgency
    • dysuria
    • difficulty emptying the bladder
    • acute urinary retention

Examination

  • T = 104 f
  • distended, tender lower abdomen
  • Prostate massage should be avoided in the acutely infected patient as this could result in severe pain, bacteremia, and unrecoverable urosepsis
