Ulnar Nerve Lesion

Motor supply

  • pectorals
  • flexor carpi ulnaris
  • flexor digitorum profundus
  • hypothenar muscles
  • small muscles of hand

Sensory supply

  • medial aspect of hand

Path

  1. medial to axillary artery
  2. to posterior aspect of medial epicondyle
  3. pierces intermuscular septum
  4. enters posterior compartment to lie anterior to triceps
  5. passes around medial epicondyle posteriorly
  6. pierces flexor carpi ulnaris
  7. between flexor carpi ulnaris and flexor digitorum profundus
  8. passes wrist in tunnel superficial to flexor retinaculum

Common pathology

  • Causes
    • funny bone
    • valgus deformity
  • clawed hand
  • wasting of hypothenar eminence
  • weak adduction at wrist
  • hyperextension of metacarpo-phalageal joints
