Coarctation of the Aorta


  • narrowing of the aorta in region of the left subclavian vein
  • association with Patent Ductus Arteriosus
  • commoner in  Turner's Syndrome
  • arch may be interrupted
  • most frequent to present with heart failure in newborn period (10 days old)

Examination

  • raised blood pressure in right arm
  • absent femoral pulses

Treatment

  • surgical resection and grafting
