Phimosis

• When foreskin will not retract properly

• may be accompanied by stenosis of urethral meatus

Symptoms

• Pain on intercourse

Associations

• Diabetes Mellitus

• Recurrent Balanitis

Causes

• chronic or recurrent low-grade Candida infection leading to fibrosis

• attempts at retraction leading to minor tears of epithelial lining

• → circumferential scar or phimotic ring

Treatment

• Distal to proximal pressure dressing or 5-10 mins circumferential pressure

  • occasionally requiring sedation

• Dorsal slit

  • 1-2% xylocaine (without adrenaline)

• Circumcision
