Progesterone
- Causes endometrial secretion
- Raises basal body temperature
- aldosterone inhibition causes water and
sodium retention
- Enhance negative feedback effects of oestradiol and so cause reduced
release on LH and FSH
- Remove positive feedback effects of oestradiol and so inhibits surges of FSH
and LH
- Acts primarily to reduce GnRH pulse frequency in hypothalamus
- levels rise shortly after ovulation
- decreases cervical mucus and transforms to a thick, nonelastic state
